This paper examines the network's and development of Islamic liberal Thought in Malaysia and Indonesia, focusing on organizations such as Liberal Islam Network and Sisters in Islam; including their political, organizational and intellectual origins. These movements impact on Indonesia's and Malaysia's intellectual development and at the same time face an uproar over controversies such as the JIL coordinator of JIL Indonesia, Ulil Abshar Abdalla being condemned as an infidel.
